Mission: First Force/Task Force Command - Inspection Tour

Jason sat in the co-pilots seat next to Petty Officer Kenny McCormick, his aide and pilot. Team Three had headed out after the Titan put down about two blocks from the building holding the hostages. Roberts was monitoring them, but he was distracted. He had found out after the Team briefing that Enterprise had gone missing and lost contact….



- 3 Hours Ago –

The Admiral sat down at his console and keyed in the comm. To the Zeus after not getting any reply from the Enterprise. As he did so, he tried to keep the worry that had built in his gut off of his face. Captain Teranga Leela’s face appeared on the screen and Roberts took a breath, “Captain, report on the Enterprise,” he ordered.

Leela winced at the mans tone, “sir, the Enterprise has been taken over by hostile forces, we are currently in route,” she explained cautiously and fought the urge to fidget with her hands under the desk.

“Why didn’t you tell me earlier? Who captured them, how do you know?” he growled and leaned forward in his seat, the knot in his stomach tightening so far now that he was sure his insides were going to burst.

“Sir, I know how you feel about that ship but we are obligated to verify reports before coming to you, we only just now finished compiling everything from a flight of Enterprise birds who made it to us,” the Captain replied, wondering now if the rumors were true that the Admiral preferred his ship and a hole in some bulkhead to a live woman. She ran through the quick explanation about the Denworlders and the attack, “and that’s all –“

“Captain, I’ve got an escape pod on sensors, no life signs,” some unknown voice called over the Zeus’ internal comm..

“Stand by Admiral,” Leela said and the screen went black.

Jason opened his mouth to stop her but wasn’t quick enough. The minutes ticked by, seemingly stretching into years. Roberts sat, left with his own imagination in the silence. For anyone that wasn’t a good place to be, but in a state like this one it was something that nearly killed him.

When Leelas face reappeared fifteen minutes later, her expression was grim, “Admiral, the escape pod was from the Enterprise,” she started then took a breath to brace against what was surely coming, “Captain Corbins body was inside, stripped from the waist up and stabbed in the heart, he’s been dead at least six hours.”

Jason lowered his gaze to his desk, so many thoughts hitting him at once, none were ones of a Starfleet officer. They were ones of a friend, a lover but not, for the first time since setting out on her, were of the ship itself, “Captain, you will proceed at however fast you can to the Enterprise and get there yesterday, Roberts out,” he growled and slammed his hand on the keypad so hard it shattered, slicing his hand.



- Present –

Jason looked at the bandage around his hand and squeezed his fingers shut causing a new surge of blood from beneath. Zeus had yet to contact him, but at last reported speed they should have arrived by now. He could feel Kenny watching him, but the younger man had enough sense not to ask any questions, “Admiral, Team Three reports ready to enter.”

“Acknowledge and tell them to wrap up quick, we’re heading back after this,” he ordered and hunched over the console, hoping work would keep him focused…
