Mission:
Picking Up the Pieces
Location: =/= Holodeck =/=
Reaper walked into the holodeck after leaving sickbay and Lieutenant Andros. He had a few more rounds to make and looked around the crowded beach for the next person on his list. Spotting the bronze skinned man, James walked over and came to a stop just behind the Lieutenant, "great view."
Flynn was looking out over the bay shown in the program, his hands above his eyes blocking out the glaring overhead sun. "It is at that." Flynn Turned and came to a startled attn when he saw the man behind him. "Sorry sir, did not know it was you."
Archer raised an eye brow, "at ease. Who do you think I am?" he asked with a smile since he'd not met Taggart yet in person.
"Being that your still in uniform sir, I would say a captain by your rank insignia, which means you out rank me, and probably get paid more as well." It was logical on his part. There was so many new task force people on ship he just started looking at rank pips without thinking.
"Ah, I see," James said with a nod, "Captain Archer, James Archer," he introduced and extended his had, "I'm the new commander of the Enterprise."
Fly smiled and shook the hand. "Lieutenant Junior Grade Flynn Taggart, First Force Unit 1 CO, welcome to the enterprise sir." So this was the new Captain, he would have to see if he could get some background info now that he had a name.
"Thank you, Lieutenant and, no, your not Unit One Commander anymore," he said with a grin and went to a parade rest, "I've had you reassigned to a position that needs to be filled elsewhere on the ship."
Flynn nodded and sighed. 'I suppose things went bad enough for this to happen, so how bad is it. " Flynn figured that with the loss of Corbin and how swimmingly the entire Denworld encounter ended up being, he was probably about to become the first ever enlisted janitor in starfleet.
Archer grinned, "it's the worst job in Starfleet," he started and paused for a minute, looking away then looking back, "my exec."
"Your what?" Flynn looked at the man incredulously for a moment. "Starfleet brass does know that the last operation we lost a lot of people including the CO and myself?"
Archer shrugged, "I could care less, the brass has no say who I pick," he replied honestly, "and one warrior to another, shit happens, in situations like that people die and every op has the chance to go south, no exceptions. From what I've pieced together there's not much of anything anyone could have done different, from the Commodore down to the crewman in the Quartermaster department."
"Alright then, so why me?" It was a standard question, but and important one.
"Well, I compared everyones records, and the entire senior staff is more then qualified. What it came down to was two things though, first, I need to feel comfortable with the person I have in that post. Our backgrounds are different, but we both have been made who we are by fighting. It's a bad mentality for me to have, but I think that starts us off on the same wave length," he started and paused for a second, "the second reason is a bit less selfish, after watching the recordings, you had coordinated more then just your Unit, you didn't let the mentality that other Operators and Marines, including myself, can fall into take over, the your better then the fleetie regulars and with the Marines and First Force here I need someone who can do that coordination and keep me from favoring one of the two because, I'll be honest, I tend to without realizing it."
"Alright you want me ya got me, but I have one condition, if some furry race seems to be nice perfect and peaceful, we U turn and haul ass as fast as possible in the opposite direction." No more revenge of the fuzz if he could help it.
Archer laughed, "possibly, but we have a few Louphomme officers aboard along with at least one Denworlder, might be hard to run. I'm including fish people like the Delphites in that too," he added with a grin, "there is just one more thing," he said then pulled out a solid pip, "as of now I'm promoting you to the rank of Acting Commander and, for your long service on this ship as well as your actions during the last mission, I am also awarding the First Force Citation, congratulations, Commander."
Flynn was shocked at the promotion and the award. "Well um, thank you sir."
"No problem, Commander, I just hope you can deal with me, I've been out of the field a whole three days, it's going to be a bit of an adjustment not leaving the ship to lead away teams."
"Don't worry, I can talk to our new CMO, I am sure he has all kinds of tranqs and sedatives that will mellow you out and keep your ass in the command chair." Flynn looked thoughtful for a second. "We may need to disable visual communications though. Seeing the CO passed out in his chair drooling is probably not the image that Star fleet is going for.'
Reaper just laughed, "well, see, the issue there is if I'm passed out drooling, your CO and aren't allowed to leave the ship either," he said with a grin, "I'm going to put in a call to Beta Command in a little bit here, your first act as exec, make sure the entire crew comes in here and relaxes, that includes CiC and Marine Ops. You all went through a lot and lost someone everyone seems to have been close to, time off is mandatory."
Fly nodded, the marines would be the easiest, just let slip the open bar policy, the rest would be a matter of rounding up everyone. "Alright boss, I had better get going then. " Waited to be dismissed.
Archer nodded, "I'll make it easy, your clear to shut down all non-essential systems, including work terminals," he replied with a smirk and looked over the holographic ocean, "once you get the message out you off duty until tomorrow, Commander," he added with another nod, his way of letting Flynn go off.
Flynn nods and begins his task, it would take him a few minutes to get everything prepared, he strode out of the holodeck and began turning off stations and sending people into the holodeck before he got some R&R himself.
