The Raktaj class was designed in early 2400 to serve as Starfleets Primary Heavy Bomber. Like any bomber, she is severely lacking in speed and maneuverability, both at Sublight and FTL speeds, but she more than makes up for this in terms of firepower.

The Raktaj is designed to be able to withstand a great deal of punishment, and deal it out just as effectively. Due to it's lack of speed, the shields have been pumped up to a 410 Isotones per Second, more than twice that of some other fighters. The Type III Ablative Hull Armor and Holographic Cloaking Device only serves to add to its already formidable capabilities. The Cloaking device in particular is very unusual for a ship of its size, but if used correctly, allows it to make bombing runs without the need for a large fighter escort. In situations where support is scarce, this could prove decisive.

The Raktajs Primary Weapons are comparatively weak as a result of the bombers more offensive nature, comprising of only 2 Pulse Fire Phaser cannons and a single manual turret, operated by the second pilot, if present. Though this is acceptable given its role, it does make it vulnerable against fighters if it is forced to engage them.

The secondary weapons, however, are far more formidable comprising of over 300 micro torpedoes and up to 4 full size torpedoes stored on its 4 External Hard Points. This gives the fighter the ability to tackle small and large targets alike and this makes the Raktaj particularly effective against freighters, transports and small to medium sized starships. It is capable of engaging larger vessels if it has a numerical advantage over the enemy but is far less effective in this role.
